Axial thrust coupling
With the axial thrust coupling, linear forces are transmitted through walls without contact.
The special feature of the axial thrust clutch
lies in the fact that it can transmit linear movements through walls. The transmission of the thrust movement is friction-locked by permanent magnet materials.
Application area
The axial thrust clutch
is ideal when linear forces need to be transmitted through walls in a leakage-free, contactless, vibration-free, low-noise, dust-tight and wear-free manner. In addition, axial thrust couplings are suitable when operational safety without energy supply and contactless bearing is desired and workpieces are to be machined up to a certain compressive or tensile force (mechanical protection).
Advantages / Features
- wear-free, since contactless
- de-energized
- fail-safe
- low maintenance
- sustainable
- no follow-up costs
- noiseless
- vibration-free power transmission
Versions
As a special design, the axial thrust coupling from Tridelta Magnetsysteme was combined with a central rotary coupling for a special application. In this way, an axial displacement force is achieved in this system with simultaneous transmission of a specified torque.
Functionality
In the axial thrust clutch, two or more magnetic rings with the same number of magnetic poles face each other in rotational symmetry. This exploits the attractive and repulsive properties of the magnetic poles: If one ring is moved, the other ring also moves due to the magnetic attractive forces.
The clutch slips as soon as a certain resistance on the output side is exceeded. It then forwards only a residual amount of the force. This prevents exceeded holding forces and provides additional protection to machinery and equipment. The limitation of the thrust is determined by
- the distance between the magnetic rings (air gap)
- the material of the magnetic rings
- the number of magnetic poles on the magnetic rings
- the size of the magnetic ring surfaces and
- the operating temperature
This type of coupling is used for straight line moving systems such as pistons, cylinders, rotors and rods
